Natural Fever Reducer

When hubby and I had our blog the post that seemed to get the most hits was the  natural fever reducer post. It worked so well it’s worth re-posting especially for my readers with little ones.

A year ago hubby had a horrible stomach virus with a very high fever, since he couldn’t keep anything down and his fever had been high for quite sometime he needed some relief. Let me tell you one of the things I love about my husband is his skepticism. He keeps me on my toes, asking the hard questions, making me dig deeper and think through things. One of the foods/herbs I’ve give a lot of time too is garlic, I knew it had compounds in it that boosted the immune system and that it could be used to reduce fevers. So I gave it a shot.

Here is what I did:

1.    Chop a large garlic clove or 2-3 small ones and chop it up.
2.    Place the minced garlic in a bowl with a splash of olive oil (any oil will do since it acts as a carrier)
3.    Let this sit and infuse for about 15 minutes.
4.    Get a piece of gauze or a paper towel and dump the garlic and olive oil onto the paper. Fold over and place the garlic poultice on the bottom of the feet. Wrap the foot in Saran Wrap to hold in place and allow it to sit for 20-30 minutes. Jason’s fever broke in 20 minutes then he started to fuss about how funny he looked and there better not be any blog pictures.

*It is important to use oil as a carrier before applying to the skin since the oils in the garlic are strong and can irritate the skin.

We finished up our scuba class, and I passed my test!! Hubby was right,  swimming around the pool toward the end gets boring. I guess that’s good since it means you’ve gotten comfortable in the water and it’s time to move to a bigger pond. Besides,  I don’t think I’ll miss passing the pretty pink barrett and clods of hair and other unidentifiable floating objects in the public pool water too much, you realize how icky public pools are when you scuba in them.

Next step, check out dive at the spring. Or is it check off? Everyone calls it something different.

Fantastic Versatile Pasta Dish

June 22, 2009 at 3:55 pm | In Family, recipes | Leave a Comment

We have fresh red peppers coming up in our garden. Or would you say coming out? Since they grow out of a plant? Which we roasted for this recipe. You can use canned red peppers and they work just as well.

Ree has a recipe posted that doesn’t seem like much but once you tasted it. WHOA! It is quite delicious! It’s called Pasta with Roasted Red Pepper Sauce.

It cooks up in about 12 minutes and will make a great base for many dishes. Hubby doesn’t like red peppers really liked this dish.  So, don’t scrap this dish until you’ve tried it. We used it as a side dish so if hubby wasn’t a fan he wasn’t out a whole meal.

Oh, and as for the pasta, I didn’t have Penne or Ziti noodles on hand so I used Elbow Macaroni.

Our family kept coming up with ideas to add to this dish, plain as above is great, or with bits of bacon and the fresh onion and garlic cooked in a little bacon grease.  Chunks of ham, or grilled chicken diced up.

What did your family come up with?

God is the only being in existence the reason for who’s existence is in himself. Every other creature looks for it’s reason of existence outside of itself, we are all contingent, cause and finite. God alone is uncontingent, uncaused and infinite.

Here are some pictures of Dive class, this is the first day and we were learning how to don our gear. This is our instructor and apparently my hand was very interesting.

Another group shot and Storey being funny.

Me, this wetsuit is a 5ml and I was burning up! We bought a shorty and this suit will be saved for the ice cold springs.

All my gear in the pool for the first time. I’ve come to the conclusion, there is no one, no where, and no way, to look good in scuba gear. If your one of those keep it to yourself :-D

thumbnail size, hehehe, don’t judge me
